Plamondon, Gerard "Gerry" Robert, 91, of Central Falls and formerly of St. Maarten in the Caribbean, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021, after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Carol (Voyer) Plamondon.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Oscar and Emma (Camire) Plamondon. He was the father of Susan C. Plamondon, David Plamondon, Sharon Kelly and her husband Jonathan, Scott Plamondon and his wife Barbara, and the late Lynn Plamondon. He was the proud Pepere of Brian, Scott, Allison and Kelly Plamondon. He is survived by his brother Retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel Robert Plamondon, and his sisters Rita Mills, Terry Malloy, Irene Plamondon and Claire Turrell. Gerry always loved his nieces and nephews and the special "chats" that they had. He was the brother of the late Raymond, U.S. Navy; Normand, U.S. Navy and Airforce; and Roland, U.S. Airforce; Doris Shea; and Pauline Wood.
Gerry proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserve enlisted from September 1952 to September 1962, as a 2nd Classman Machinist Mate.
He worked as a Finished Carpenter Foreman for L. Vaughn Company and Modern Industries traveling to Washington DC, New York and Boston before retiring at age 59 and moving to the Island of St. Maarten where he was known as the “Mayor” of Orient Beach. The friendships gained from those many years are cherished even to this day.
Our Dad enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a people person - fun loving, story-telling, had a great sense of humor and a kid at heart. His sensitivity towards people and their needs was very obvious. His hobbies included the Beach, Music, Ballroom Dancing, Reading, the Theatre, Western Movies, and he really enjoyed food … especially his son-in-law’s homemade cooking. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited in celebration of his life on Wednesday, August 11th from 4-6:30pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30pm at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, RI. The family requests masks and social distancing be observed. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to the RI Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
